TUESDAY DEC 15, 2009
The Voice of Indigenous People's in the Global Sustainability Movement
Curated by Julian Lauzzana

Indigenous voices are largely left out of the mainstream discussion on climate change. There is a tendency in our culture to focus solely on technological solutions and "buying green" rather than making a major shift in our psychology, consumption patterns and lifestyles. Copenhagen Climate Conference (COP15) was largely the same story of businessmen and politicians attempting to make huge decisions for the rest of humanity behind closed doors. Large multinational corporations and wealthy nations dominate the discussion. It is not an open dialogue. The promise of the corporatocracy (a John Perkins term) to "develop" poor countries of the global south has, in large part, led to unsustainable patterns of development. It is time to listen to the wisdom of people who have been living sustainably for many generations. Combining the wisdom of indigenous people with the best of the modern world will offer us the only truly sustainable path; both Primal and Digital.

Below are related links, many to films shown at the December MicroCinema:

SEPTEMBER 15th
Youth Perspectives in the Media
Featuring work by Ground Productions and Digital Elf Studios

Director Tonje Hessen Schei and Producer Meg Merrill were present from Ground Productions

Filmmaker, educator and 3D animator Bev Standish of Digital Elf Studios
was also present to talk about her film, The Escape of Middle C.

Both films revolve around themes affecting youth today:
Play Again addresses the impact of technology (and nature deprivation) on youth
